The Arachnids took it on the chin earlier in the season as the Americans prevailed 3-2 in early May. The visiting Americans let it be known in the top of the first that they fully intended to continue their control of the spiders as they scored the first run of the ball game. Mike Kane reached out a fielders choice and later came home on a Peter GEANNELIS single off TJ Scorsone. . 1-0 Visitors. Kane and Scorsone took a fine pitchers duel into the bottom of the 4th as the Americans maintained that 1-0 lead. The Arachnids finally hit pay dirt in the bottom of the fourth as Darrell Duncan lined a one out single to left center, stole second, and scored on a Scorsone 1-4 fielders choice. 1-1 after 4. The spiders added one more in the fifth as Terry McCarthy led off with a single. Tom King singled. Jimmy Wing lays down a good bunt. Bases loaded, no outs. Don Wixon hits into an apparent fielders choice but the ball was mishandled and McCarthy scores. Kane strikes out the next batter. Bases loaded. One out. Edelman proceeds to hit a line drive right at Kane who makes the good grab, wheels and throws Wixon out as he tries to get back to the bag. Inning over, spiders up 2-1. Arachnids add 2 more in the 6th as Duncan singles and steals 2nd. Saidenberg doubles home Darrell. Scorsone singles. Nicholsen singles plating Saidenberg. Inning ends with a seemingly comfortable 4-1 home team lead. Top of the 7th. The Americans were not ready for bed. Lead off hitter Holmes draws a walk. Steve Lounello strokes a long double scoring Holmes. Mike Labarge singles home Lounello. 4-3 game and no outs. Borrowed player, Dave Plew grounds into a fielders choice, forcing LaBarge at second for the first out. Jesse Braverman grounds into a fielders choice, forcing Plew at second two out. Scorsone buckles down and finally strikes out Brad Buchan after many foul balls to end the game. The Arachnids come away with a well earned 4-3 victory. The Americans committed one error while the Arachnids made 0. Both pitchers threw very well with Americans Mike KANE pitching a full game giving up nine hits, three runs, one walk, and striking out four, three looking. TJ Scorsone what the distance for the Arachnids allowing six hits, walking three, hitting one batter, and striking out six. On offense for the Americans, Jesse, Braverman, and Mike LaBarge each had two hits. For the arachnids, Darrell Duncan went 3-3, Terry McCarthy, 2-3 and Rick Saidenberg had that long double. The Arachnids are now 6-1 and the Americans 5-3. There are a couple of things I have to add that are worthy. Mike KANE hit a shot to dead center in the third inning that Stefan KOUTSAKIS, being the excellent defensive player he is, hauled in. If that ball was hit to straight away left or straight away right, it wouldve been gone. As it was rising I thought it might make it, but not this time. Bob Bolt, who is still recovering from an early spring heart attack, made an appearance in the arachnids dugout midway through the game. He looked great. Hopefully hell be in uniform again soon. We sure look forward to it.
