In a game shortened to 5 innings because of lightening, then eventually rain, the Giants defeated the Blue Jays 7-2. Scotty Card appeared in his first game since heart surgery and showed he's lost nothing. He hit the first pitch he saw since last year to center for a single, stole a base and scored. And, he was going to pitch the 7th had we gotten there. He also played a solid SS after Mike Aiello pulled a hami in the first inning.
Rodney Smith and Danny Maguire again the catalysts by getting on base and scoring in their first two at-bats. Big blow a bases-clearing 2B by Jimmy Keegan, an absolute rocket over the right-fielder's head in the second inning. Wayne Phillips went 2-3 and Pat Alston 3-3.
Jerry Solomon gave up 2 runs on 2 hits in the first, then settled down and didn't give up a hit after that in his 4-inning stint. Jimmy Keegan threw a real nice inning in relief, setting down all three batters he faced.
That's some team you've put together, JK. People don't talk about Rodney Smith much, he kind of flies under the radar, but I've always felt that he's a tremendous player.
A lot of good teams out there, lurking in the waters . . .
