Fort Orange suffered its first loss of the tournament on Tuesday morning, unable to overcome the Americans crafty pitching or the chilly, sub-50-degree temperatures. The Americans jumped out to an early lead, scoring four runs in the first inning off Mohawk starter Don Ball, helped by three hits, three walks, and a fielding error. After Ball delivered a scoreless second, the Americans struck again in the third, adding two more runs on two hits and two walks. In the fourth, reliever Jeff Whitehead took the mound, but the Mohawks defense faltered, committing three errors that led to two unearned runs and an 80 deficit after four innings. The Mohawks finally broke through in the fifth, capitalizing on singles from Bradley and Gougler and a few American errors. However, the Americans quickly answered in the bottom half, restoring their eight-run lead at 91. Fort Orange added another run in the sixth when Weber walked and scored on an Alkalay double, but the Americans responded with three more runs off reliever Koutsakistwo in the sixth and one in the seventh. The Mohawks plated two runs in the seventh, highlighted by an Alston single and a Gougler triple, and tacked on one more in the ninth with a Colletta double and Bradley single. Final score 12-5.
