In a rematch of last year's championship series the Orioles defeated the Silver Marlins at a very swampy Bethlehem Town Park.
Field conditions were horrible but the two teams were determined to get this one in given the fact that games have been rained out at such an alarming rate.
Jim Latorre and Bob Bolt matched up in what became a pitchers duel until the last inning. The Marlins scored in the bottom half of the first on three consecutive hits; Bolt then retired 10 straight before the Marlins got a hit leading off the fifth.
Latorre blanked the O's on just one hit through the first three but a couple of walks a hit an error and a sac fly later the Orioles scored three runs.
Bolt allowed a leadoff hit in the fifth followed by a walk but managed to escape. The Orioles then used 4 hits a walk and an error to score 4 runs in the top half of the seventh to put the game away.
Bob Bolt went the distance for the O's allowing 5 hits and striking out three. Jim Latorre went the disatnce for the Marlins giving up 6 hits and 4 earned runs.
The Orioles improved to 3-1-1 and the Marlins dropped to 2-1.
Hey Stark thats not me making the post as Newbie Brian but it is kinda funny. And as everyone knows Ill speak my peace as BD Rossiter. Missed your write up about yourself giving up 4 runs in the first inning of a game then turning it over to Bobby to clean up your mess. Brings back old memories with the peppers. where the manager thinks he is invincable. What is it with you ?? Maybe you need to plug in the super hero cape for awhile. Let me know when they are having Dick Stark day at the A Diamond. Ill bring the pecans.
I Don't Get the Pecan Reference? Please explain! But I really do think Dick and BD should kiss and make-up. Maybe over a large stack of Johnnycakes. If you don't get the johnnycake reference call Vito Spatafore.
