Twins and Whiz met last night for the early game at the A Diamond. Starting pitcher for the Twins was Stefan Koutsakis, for the Whiz Jeff Friedman. Top of the 1st the Whiz scored 5 runs. Consecutive singles by Adam Ellenbogen, Joe Burns and Doug Reisinger led to a run. After getting the next 2 batters, Bob Bolt walked followed by a 2 rbi single from Jim Macarelli. Paul Graziano and Greg Mangione walked (rbi) and a single by Jan Friedman ended the scoring in the top of the 1st. Bottom of the 2nd had the Twins get on the scoreboard. Craig Tynan led off the inning and reached on an error and proceeded to steal 2nd and 3rd. Koutsakis had an rbi sac fly to score the run. Top of the 3rd, Gene Hallenbeck led off with a single and stole 2nd. With 2 outs Macarelli had an rbi single. Bottom of the 3rd had the Twins tack on 4 runs. With 2 outs, Alex Marin singled, Jeff Cohen walked which was followed by a 2rbi double from Jeff Whitehead followed by an rbi double from Steve Rychcik. Joe Burns come in to pitch. Tynan completed the scoring with an rbi double. Score was Whiz 6, Twins 5 after 3. Top of the 4th, with 1 out, Jan Friedman hit a double and scored on an infield error on the next batter. Top of the 5th Burns led off with a single, but was cut down at 2nd on a fielder choice on a Reisinger hit. Hallenbeck hit a single, followed by an rbi single from Jeff Friedman. Bottom of the 5th saw the Twins score a run. With 1 out Cohen hit a double and moved to 3rd on a pass ball. The run scored on a sac fly by Whitehead. Score was Whiz 8 - Twins 6 after 5 innings. Bottom of the 6th had the Twins tie the game at 8. Mark Wight, Frank Owens and Joe Hauser had consecutive singles to score a run. With 2 outs Cohen had an rbi single to knot the game at 8 after 6 innings. Top of the 7th had Ellenbogen reach on a single and he proceeded to steal 2nd and 3rd. Burns executed a squeeze play to score a run. Burns stole 2nd and scored on a double from Reisinger. Bottom of the 7th and 1 out Tynan reached base on a single and scored on a 2 out single by Wight. The next batter popped out to the infield to end the game.
For the Twins, Cohen was 3-3 with a double, Tynan was 2-3 with a double, Rychcik was 2-4 with a double, Hauser was 2-3. Whitehead added a double. Koutsakis gave up 15 hits with 1K, 6 BB and 1HBP.
For the Whiz, Ellenbogen was 3-3, Burns was 3-4, Hallenbeck, Macarelli and Jan Friedman (double) were all 2-3. Reisinger was 2-4 with a double. Jeff Friedman and Burns gave up 14 hits with 4 K and 2 BB.
