55 PIRATES-TWINS LOCK HORNS 5-21-2026

Both the Twins and Pirates put starters on the hill who pitched the entire game. Wayne. Nicholsen for the home team Twins and Dana Hansen for the Pirates. Both last names end in sen and I think they are might well be related from way way back in Scandinavia area. Scoring went back and forth with the Pirates down 5-3 in the top of the 7th. Nicholsen retired the first 2 batters and then the #10 hitter, Lutz, hits a clean single. Jimmy Jazz follows with his 3rd walk of the game. Greg Allen helped with a single. 1 run in, 5-4 game Twins. Grounder to short-ERROR ! Jazz scores . All tied up 5-5. Nicholsen gets cleanup hitter Haff on a deep fly to center for the 3rd out. Koutsakis leads off in the bottom of the 7th and draws a walk and steals 2nd. .Jeff Cohen follows with a single and steals 2nd after Koutsakis takes 3rd on the single.Craig Tynan grounds to short and is thrown out at 1st as Koutsakis breaks for home and the winning run is cut down at the plate. And just like that, theres 2 outs. Steve Rychcik flies out to deep left to end the inning. We go to extras. Foti leads off for the Pirates and reaches on an error by the Twins second baseman. Next batter strikes out swinging. Currier comes up and reaches on a fielders choice as Foti is out at 2nd. Third out comes on a 6-3 groundout. Hauser leads for the home team and reaches first on a Pirate second baseman error. That seems to be going around. John Reel flies out to left. Hauser steals 2nd. Borrowed catcher Eddie Draves really gets ahold of one and drives the ball deep to left but was out on a great catch. Edelman works a walk with 2 out but the 8th ends on a pop up to short by Koutsakis. 9th inning. Atkinson leads off and reaches on another SS error and promptly steals 2nd. Lutz grounds out 4-3 moving the go ahead run to 3rd with 1 out. Jazz walks again. Allen lofts one to center and Atkinson scores giving the Pirates their first lead of the game on the sac fly. Nicholsen nails Dostie in the back. Haff hits a scorcher to first baseman Hauser who hauls it in and slams the ball on the bag to beat the speedy Haff. Here comes the bottom of the 9th. Cohen leads and grounds out 6-3. Tynan walks. Steve Rychcik walks. Alex Marin walks. Bases loaded with 1 out. Big Joe Hauser steps to the plate and proceeds to deliver a line shot over the right fielders head plating Tynan and Rychcik. Game over. Twins pull it out 7-6. Twins pound out 10 hits with Hauser going 4-4, and Tynan 3-4, Jeff Cohen 2-5, and Koutsakis 1-4. Pirates record six hits with Greg Allen leading the way 3-5, Jazz 1-1 a double and 4 walks. DOSTIE. 1-4, and Lutz 1-4. Nicholsen with the win and Hansen is the hard luck loser. The man can throw hard but he also threw a lot of EEPHUS PITCHES. . That was not an easy win for the Twins. The Pirates have some serious game.

One correction, pitching for the Pirates was Dana Hanson, who went nine solid. I was catching. Thanks to Twins for a great game.
