The 62 Arachnids and Cardinals squared off at New Scotland Field on a perfect baseball weather evening last night. Starting on the hill were Bill Chichester for the Cards and TJ Scorsone for the Spiders. Both pitchers brought their A games. Through the first 3 innings, the game was scoreless with Chichester allowing just 1 hit and Scorsone yielding 0 hits over 4. The Arachnids finally cracked the ice in the bottom of the 4th with Jim Edelman hitting a 1 out single to left, advanced to second on a passed ball, went to 3rd on a double by Bobby Bolt, and scored the only run that Scorsone would need on a single by Darrell Duncan. Scorsone helped his own cause by knocking in Bolt with a single. 2-0 Arachnids after 4. Both teams went down in the 5th without scoring. Chichester, who pitched very well through 5 full was replaced by Jeff Martin in the 6th which worked in the spiders favor as they erupted for 4 runs via a walk and 4 hits including doubles by Bolt and Lee Madsen. Knuckleballer Chichester took the loss allowing just 2 runs, 1 walk, 5 hits and striking out 1 over 5 full. Scorsone was masterful and earned the win over the talented Cardinals giving up O runs, 3 hits, striking out 6, and walking 2. Martin, Hanson, and Knipper had the Cardinal hits. For the Arachnids, Bolt was 2-3, both doubles, Madsen a double, Duncan 2-3 , Scorsone 1-3, Pat Alston 1-2, Don Wixon 1-2 and a big RBI, and Edelman 1-2. Final score 6-0, Arachnids win.
