Whiz and Yankees played the early game at the A Diamond last night. Starting for the Yankees was Lex Herrlett, for the Whiz Jim Macarelli. Whiz went down 1,2,3 in the top of the 1st. Yankees threatened in the bottom of the 1st. With 1, out JJ Janetsky and Eric Duemler drew consecutive walks. The next batter struck and and a fly to right ended the inning. Whiz went down quietly in the top of the 2nd. Bottom of the 2nd for the Yankees had Dave Leonard lead off with a single, next batter reached on an error followed by a single from Doug Edick to load the bases. Dave Smitherman hit a fielder choice that resulted in a run scoring and an out at 3rd. The next batter flew out to short for the 2nd out. Herrlett and Janetsky both had RBI singles followed by a walk to Duemler. Tony Parella delivered a 2 RBI single up the middle. Score after 2 was Yankees up 5-0. Top of the 3rd had the Whiz get one back. Ron McCarthy led off the inning with a walk and stole 2nd base, but was picked off at 2nd for the 1st out. Jan Friedman singled. With 2 outs Warren Zeiser singled giving the Whiz runners on 1st and 3rd. Zeiser stole 2nd with Jan Friedman scoring the run. Top of the 4th had the Whiz tack on 2 more runs. With 1 out Doug Reisinger hit a double. With 2 outs, Macarelli had an RBI single, followed by an RBI single from Barry Friedman. 5-3 Yankees after 4 innings. Top of the 6th had the Whiz tie it up. Zeiser led off with a triple. Adam Ellenbogen grounded out to 2nd which scored Zeiser. With 2 outs, Reisinger hit a single and stole second. Gene Hallenbeck hit a single that scored Reisinger. Score was 5-5 after 6. Bottom of the 7th had Shane Flint relieve Macarelli. Janetsky led the inning with a walk followed by an intentional walk to Duemler. Parella drew a walk to load the bases with no outs. With the infield in, Jack Griffin hit a ball to 1st with the runner on 3rd scoring the winning run. Final score Yankees 6 - Whiz 5.
