This past Tuesday evening, the 55 GIANTS and Twins squared off for a doubleheader at A Diamond. In the first game, it was 2-1in favor of the Giants after four full innings. The Home team Giants, tacked on six runs in the bottom of the fifth to go up 8-1 positioning themselves to end the game early . However, the Twins bats came alive in the top of the sixth as they scored six runs, knocking out the Giants starter Ed Powell, and it was suddenly A one run ball game, 8-7, Giants . Twins reliever JEFF WHITEHEAD held Giants scoreless in the bottom of the sixth. Top of the seventh and the Twins bats were still hot as they scored four more runs on five hits and finally took the lead 11-8 . Southpaw WHITEHEAD buckled down in the bottom of the seventh and retired the Giants 1-2-3 to end the ball game giving the TWINS the victory over a very good Giants team. The ever ready, willing, and able Wayne Nicholson started for the Twins and pitched the first five innings. Leading hitters for the Giants were Joe Krause 3-3 including a double. Joe Coluccio 2-3. And Jim Keegan 2-3. Brendan Hogan made a couple of spectacular full speed running catches in centerfield . For the Twins, Alex Marin went 3-3 including a double. JEFF WHITEHEAD 2-2 including a double. Jeff Cohen 2-3, and Frank Owens 2-4 including a triple. Twins right fielder Rick Saidenberg threw out two Giants runners at first base with his powerful right arm that he attributes to international boomerang competitions that he participates in every year. Twins win 11-8.
In the second game, the Home team Twins held a somewhat comfortable 6-2 lead after four innings. The Giants tied it up scoring four runs in the top of the fifth. The Twins came back in the bottom of fifth scoring two runs to regain the lead 86 and that is the way it stayed as the game was called after 5 full at 10:50 PM because the lights go out at 11. The Giants had 10 hits against Twins starter STEFAN Koutsakis. Leading the offense for the Giants were Wayne Phillips 3-3, Andrew Pedone 2-3, and Joe Krause 2-3. For the Twins Craig Tynan was 3-3 with a double and STEFAN KOUTSAKIS 2-2. Twins win 8-6.
