Reds visit Peppers on a hot night at the A Diamond


The Reds visited the Red Hot Chili Peppers at the A- diamond. The Peppers were not the only thing hot to start the game. The temps were in the 90's on the carpet to start the game.

Dave Plew took the bump for the Peppers and Rick Knipper started for the Reds.

The visiting Reds got things going with four hits in the first six batters to plate Burns, Hall, and Griffin, highlighted by a Burns double to start things off.
The Peppers responded with three singles of their own by their first six batters scoring Freer and Arbour to cut into the lead.

The Reds got a leadoff walk, with singles by Durbak & Burns, to score Knipper & Durbak and then loaded the bases with one out. A fly to center and a line out to third ended any addition damage with the Reds tacking on two more runs.
The Peppers quickly responded with two singles and two walks scoring Golderman and Jenkins to tighten the score at 5-4.

In the third the Reds bats continued to stay hot with seven straight hits to score Griffin, Mitchell, Caruso, Reel, and Caputo, highlighted by back-to-back doubles from Mitchell & Caruso to push the Reds total to 10 runs.
Doug Hall came in to pitch for the Reds to start the bottom half of the inning. Muller singled to start the inning. The Peppers then loaded the bases with one out. A hit batter and a fielder's choice pushed two more Peppers runners across the plate to cut the lead in half, at 10-6 after three.

Dave Reed took the mound for the Peppers in the fourth and Burns & Friedmen scored, with Griffin getting the RBI single to add to the lead at 12.
The Peppers went down 1-2-3 for a quick inning in the field for the Reds on a hot night.
12-6 after four.

Caruso stayed hot with a leadoff double but was left stranded on second and the score remained unchanged for the Reds.
In the fifth the Peppers got a walk, single and sac fly to plate another run trying to chip away at the lead.
12-7after five.

In the sixth Durbak singled to start the inning, his third of the game. An error, along with Burns' third hit, another double, knocked in a run. Hall then hit a sac fly that plated the second run of the inning. Burns then closed out the scoring with the third run of the inning.
Torre led off the Peppers half of the inning with a single, but the Reds turned a timely DP and induced a ground ball to end the inning at 15-7.

With one out, Caruso singled for his third hit. Knipper followed with his second single and Durbak knocked in the run with his fourth single of the game tacking on one mpush the score to 16. Caputo came in to face the Peppers in the bottom of the seventh and with one out Vinny Koster manufactured a run to cut the lead in half again. With bases loaded the Evers to Tinker to Chance or Friedman to Draves to Mitchell closed thing out with the Reds securing a win.
