Doug Hall took the mound for the Reds, while Jimmy K answered for the Americans at New Scotland town park.
Scuteri, Bradley, Keegan, and Aiello all singled aided by a couple of infield miscues before a bases loaded single to the fence by Geannelis knocked in the 5th run with one out putting the visiting Americans up 5-0 before the home team had a chance to bat. The Reds got singles by Shaw and Hall but were not able to push any runs across. 5-0 Americans after one.
The Reds settled down in the 2nd and held the Americans scoreless. In the bottom half of the frame Mitchell led off with hard double to left followed by a Griffin single then an RBI single by John Reel. A fielders choice plated Griffin before a Double play ended the inning with the Reds chipping into the lead. 5-2 after two.
With one out Lounello worked a walk and Keegan singled but Hall was able to get the K and a pop up to third to end the threat. In the third Jaz worked a walk and stole 2nd trying the get the Reds closer. Burns singled to plate the run. Shaw then singled to for the second time in a row. Friedman then lined one up the middle that Homer snatched and made a hard play look seemingly easy, with unassisted double play at second, before a grounder to short ended the threat. Americans 5 Reds 3 after three.
In the fourth with two outs Scuteri singled again and Homer walked for the makings of another rally. Bradley then hit a major league pop up to deep left that Shaw was able to track down and end the American half of the inning. Jimmy K got the first batter looking for the K. Then Mitchell hit another hard liner to the left side that looked like trouble but Bradley quickly snatched it robbing the hit. With two outs Griffin doubled. An error on the next hit allowed the Reds to pull within one. Score after four 5 - 4.
CB Abrams took the mound in the fifth. Mangione took the free pass. Keegan and Aiello followed with singles to add another run to the Americans lead before a ground ball to short ended the scoring. Another leadoff K for Jimmy K. With one out Jaz singled to right and stole 2nd to get in scoring position. Burns followed with a double and the lead was cut in half. Shaw singled for the third time followed by a fielder's choice that found all runners safe loading the bases. An infield fly that dropped in center plated a run to tie the score. With two outs dan Durbak singled to score two and give the reds their first lead of the night at 8-6 after five.
Burns came in to face the Americans in the sixth and Geannelis doubled to start things off. After a K, Scuteri singled for the third time. Burns got another K. With two outs Bradley hit one to deep left down the line that looked like it might get out but it hit the fence to knot things up at eight. Burns was able to help himself buy hustling to catch a pop up near the baseline to leave the go ahead run at second. In the bottom of the sixth with the score tied, the Reds were able to take advantage of a couple of fielding miscues to get the go ahead run in and load the bases. The Americans decided to make a battery change. Burns had an RBI single for his third hit, followed by Shaw with an RBI single for his fourth hit, and Friedman added an RBI single to cap the inning at the 5 run limit and a 13-8 lead.
With two strikes Lounello worked a walk to start the seventh. Keegan doubled to put two runners in scoring position before a pop-up to first got the first out. An error loaded the bases before a Geannelis single knocked in a run. His third hit of the game. Burns got another K for the second out of the inning. Scuteri then singled for his fourth hit and the Americans cut the lead to 3 with bases loaded and the go ahead run at the plate. Burns was able to record the K to end the game with the Reds on top 13-10 in a slugfest that had 23 runs and 15 hits for each team.
