After an early season come from behind win by the Yankees over the Reds in their first meeting, the 8-2 Yankees hosted the 7-3 Reds in a rematch at the A- Diamond on a typical warm and humid July night.
Jim Bonaparte started for the Yankees facing Ralph Caputo and the Reds.
With one out in the 1st, singles by Hall, Griffin and Mitchell plated two to get the Reds rolling. Caputo got two grounders and a K to end the first with the Reds up 2-0
In the second Caputo singled but the Yanks got a 6-4-3. With two outs Knipper singled, followed by consecutive walks to Parker, Jaz, and Burns to force one home and load the bases for Hall who singled for the second time knocking in two before a comebacker ended the top half of the inning pushing the lead to 5-0. After a pop-up, Jimmy Mac worked the walk and took 2nd on a WP before Bones drew a walk. Pauly Post singled to score Mac to start the scoring for the Yankees. A fielders choice and a K ended the scoring for the Yanks and it was 5-1 after two.
Mitchell hit his second single and advanced to second on an offline throw and third on a passed ball. Shaw then singled Mitch in. A fielder's choice was followed by a walk and the 1-4-3 double play to end stranded one and had the Reds at 6-1 after 2-1/2. With one out Maney worked a walk. Cerone forced Maney at second, but his speed kept the Reds form turning two and ending the inning. Careccia followed with the RBI single and worked his way to third. Bones hit a fly up the middle, but Hall was able to get into shallow center to end the inning with a score of 6-2.
Weber started the fourth and Careccia in center and Cerone in right made consecutive running catches to quickly get the first two outs. But, with two outs Jaz hit a soft single to left and stole second, followed by a Burns single and Hall hit, his third of four singles, knocking in his fourth run of the game. With two on the next batter hit a hard hit to left that looked like more runs. Not to be outdone by his teammates, Mac made a catch to end the inning and hold the Reds to one run and a 7-2 lead. The Yankees boast one of the best outfields in the CDMSBL. Joe Burns started the fourth for the Reds and pitched a 1-2-3 inning.
In the fifth Weber answered with a 1-2-3 inning of his own. With one out in the bottom of the fifth, Maz singled and stole second before Burns got the K. Cortese then singled to put runners on the corners, but Burns was able to induce a grounder to end the inning and keep the score unchanged.
Weber continued where he left off and retired the first two batter on grounders. With two outs, and for the third time of the night the Reds refused to go quietly. Almost a an exact replay of second inning, Knipper singled and Parker walked to put two on. A hard-hit ball to third by Jaz skipped off the carpet at third and into left scoring Knipper. Burns followed with an RBI single. Then Hall singled, his fourth to load the bases. Griffin came up and hit a hard line drive to right center, but Careccia made another good catch to leave three stranded. But not before the Reds pushed their run total to 9. Cerone led off the sixth with a hit to right that just kept going putting him on third. Burns went to work and retired the next three batters keeping the Reds comfortably ahead at 9-2
Mitchell led off the seventh with a single and his third hit and promptly took second. Weber got a ground ball and a K. Then Caputo singled in the run with his second hit before Weber got the 1-3 to end the scoring for the Reds. CB Abrams came on in the seventh to try to close things down. After a ground out Bones worked his second walk of the game. Pauly Post then followed with another line drive, this time toward short that looked like a sure hit. But Hall made the stab and throw to close out the game. Reds 10 Yankees 2
