The Reds hosted the Peppers at Watervliet on a muggy night under the threat of thunderstorms.

Both teams were a bit shorthanded but came ready to play.

The Reds started the veteran Ralph Caputo and Dave Reed for the Peppers.

Vinny Koster led off with a single and then Freer & Reed worked walks. With bases loaded Caputo struck out the next two batters before Ed Nadeau took one for the team and an RBI. Caputo was able induce a ground ball to end the Peppers half of the inning giving up only one.
The Reds led off the bottom of the first with a single by Jaz and walk to Burns setting up Hall with the RBI double. Friedman singled in Burn and Griffin walked. With bases loaded Caputo walked to force another run and then Durbak singled in two more to end the inning with the Reds up 5-1.

Golderman reached on an error and the Caputo got the K before Jenkins and Koster loaded the bases for the second straight inning. Freer hit a hard shot to Hall at third who stepped on third and fired to first to get the speedy Freer for the inning ending double play and keep the peppers off the scoreboard.
With two outs Jaz singled and stole two bases before Burns singled him in. Peppers 1 - Reds 6 after two.

Dave Reed reached on an error and just kept running until he landed at third. Frank Kerbein walked and stole second. The next batter grounded to second keeping runners from advancing. A 6-3 for the second out resulted in a run scored. Donny Ball then singled Kerbein home before a ground out ended the Peppers half of the inning cutting the Reds lead in half.
Dave Plew came in to pitch for the Peppers in the third.
Griffin reached on a throwing error and advanced to second. Parker then singled to plate Griffin and push before the Peppers retired the next three batters.

In the fourth, with rumbles of thunder in the distance and one out, Jenkins hit a single to left. Koster followed with a line drive to left putting Griffin on his horse to go after the ball and was able to snag it keeping Harlod at first. Caputo was able to get the next batter and after 4 had given up 3 runs on 3 hits.
Draves worked a walk and Jaz laid down a bunt to third but Kerbein was able to make a good play and throw to get the lead runner on a close play at second. Jaz then stole 2nd & 3rd. Burns worked another walk and Hall followed with a single and his second RBI of the game to end the scoring for the Reds.

Burns came in to pitch in to the Peppers in the fifth to the 3-4-5 hitters. Two hits to Friedman at short and two strong throws followed by a comebacker the Burns made quick work of the Peppers.
The thunder was still rumbling and the clouds from the west were dark & rolling.
Golderman made a good move to his left to get the ball and retreat to firs for the 1st out of the inning. The next batter singled and promptly took off for second but the crafty Dave Plew started the 1-3-4 caught stealing before Durbak lined what looked like his second single to left, but Vinny Koster had other plans and made a great catch to keep the score unchanged at 8-3 after five.

After Burns got the K for the first out Donny ball singled for the second time of the night. Goldermand followed with a single to put two on. with the first few drops of rain the lightning came and that's where things ended in the sixth.
