The 55 Cubs, not having played as a team in a month showed up at the (sarcasm coming) finely manicured pasture of Schenectady's B Diamond (B standing for Bad) and played a baseball game against the always tough and talented, Yankees. Both teams opted to relocate the game from the Ravena field (as there were no direct flights into Ravena). Might not do that again!
It was a game of pitching and defense. Doug Duell worked hard for six innings. Cubs managed to group a few hits together, some walks and the biggest play of the game was, and this is my favorite part of baseball.......a bunt! Ron Massaroni laid down a sacrifice bunt that turned into a "hit", loading the bases - 3 runs scored after that play! Love the bunt. The exit velo was like 9mph!
Highlights - Yankees: - Doug Duell threw well giving up 7 hits in 6 innings - Lex Herrtlett, JJ Janetsky, Eric Duemler, Carlos Llera, Dave Smitherman, Dave Leonard all had a hit each
Highlights - Cubs: - Darrrell Duncan (Cubs Player of the Game) - 5 strong innings on the mound, 2 hits - Jerry Rosen, 2 hits, walk - Chris Dunn closed out the last two innings - 6 up, 6 down! Juego terminado!!!
