it was a lively if not altogether pretty game on a night when the rains held off at cba and the peppers rallied for the second game in row.
the fordians, who run the bases very well, struck first, with 2 in the first on a walk, a bunt single and an error. but the peppers used small ball to come back in the bottom of the first with a run.
the game proceeded like that - the fordians doubling the peppers score, the peppers hanging in - through the top of 4 when the fordians went up 8-4.
but pitcher matt leinung got stronger as the game went on, the peppers defense tightened, and the peppers scored the game's last six runs on a mix of hits, walks and hit batsmen.
i don't have all fordians' stats, but memory tells me that don mccannn and rich caruso had several hits each for the fordians and herb carter was 2-for-4 for the vets.
Hats off to the Peppers for their scrappy play last night. Seems that nearly all of their runs came with two outs in the inning, included the three they scored in the bottom of the sixth to take the lead for good. The moral of the story, too many hot peppers will leave you with Hart burn.
