Umpires or lack thereof

Beautiful weather /excellent game/ great bunch of guys/
What's wrong with the picture? No umpires again. This is a bit ridiculous.
We need to establish a criteria for what to do when this occurs again. Last night the Peppers and Highlanders locked up at CBA and found ourselves with no umpires yet again. One of the players from the Highlanders went behind the plate for the whole game and a stranger was drafted from the soccer spectators.
While the outcome probably wasn't decided by this it certainly didn't help our cause any and our pitcher Johnny Weber was clearly frustrated at not getting anything close actually taking himself out of the game (which is clearly not John)
No sour grapes here because the Highlanders did bring their hitting shoes. We need to make sure this doesn't happen again.

Two issues.

1. If someone has a complaint about umpiring, the CDMSBL has a protocol.
Players discuss it with their managers, managers discuss it with their commissioners, and commissioners discuss it with the CD umpire association and/or the CDMSBL board.

The bulletin board is not the forum to vent your frustration about umpires. If everyone chose to do this, we'd need a second bb for everyone's complaints, bitching, whining, grievances, yada, yada, yada. We all know, the umpires are always wrong.

2. There were no umpires for this game. Both teams were not happy about this. The CDMSBL board is implementing new procedures to ensure this does not happen again.

Personal note - "Soccer Dad" was excellent. He did not miss a call. Cos Dibari also did a great job behind the plate. Just ask the three Highlanders who took called third strikes.

And you gotta love the olde skool chest protector.

Hey Kevin - Herb has a very valid point here. I'd be curious to know how often this actually happens.

We, the 28 Cubs, showed up for a DH with the Tigers one Saturday, waited an hour for umpires that never showed, then played the game with the catchers calling the game. Then it was too late for the Tigers to play a game 2, some people called for a forfeit, but we want to play ball, and will, later in the year, when we may, or may not, have our full squad.

I've also had two games when only one umpire showed.

I've never yet got a refund on any league dues (I'm assuming you don't pay for umpires that don't show up, and I don't think Bryce picked up a check that day, although, then again, he did pick up a round at the Lakeside).

So, lets use this forum to share information that can help make our leagues stronger. If finding umpires for twenty game schedules is too difficult, maybe we cut down to 18, or whatever. I'd rather play in a good solid league, then worry if Blue is going to show up.
