On a brutally hot night at the Bob Moore Stadium, the 38+Cubs and the Fordians played one of the tightest, well-played games since...well...the Cubs/Blue Jays from the day before.
Ed Rogers took a no-hitter into the 6th inning for the Cubs. But the Fordians weren't going quietly and with 2 on in the sixth, Caruso smashed a line drive to the right field fence scoring 2 for the Fordians.
In the top of the 7th, down 6-3, the Fordians worked the bases loaded when Dunbar rocketed a triple into right center off the Cubs reliever to tie it up 6-6.
But in the bottom of the 7th, Jose Moreno of the Cubs worked a walk, stole second, and a Sac fly from Ostrander put him on third. Then the hot hitting Chris Black drove him in to win it for the Cubbies.
Highlights include: Ed Rogers! Jose Moreno: 2 for 3 with a walk, 4 stolen bases and 3 runs scored Chris Black: 3 for 3 with the game winning RBI Mike LaCouture: 2 for 3 with 2 RBI's The clutch hitting of Caruso and Dunbar. The Fordians and their never-say-die attitude.
And special thanks to the great Doug Zmyeski for donating the bat that Chris Black is swinging so well lately. Come on back out Doug, it isn't the same without you!
