With 6 Regulars missing from the line-up, the Silver Marlins pulled out an important victory at Voorheesville high school last night. Jim Latorre pitched 4 sharp innings and Phil Gadomski closed the door with the tying run on first and one out in the seventh inning. Ageless wonder, Skip Treece provided 4 RBI's with a double and single. Mike Girard had 3 RBI with a home run and a double. This win moved the Marlins into sole posession of second place. The difference between second and third is very important with the new playoff structure. Thanks to those 47+ Golden Marlins who filled, in so that the game could be played.
Oh yeah, I forgot to mention: The Giants started with just 9 players and in the second inning Jimmy K went down with an injury. The Marlins loaned the Giants a right fielder for the rest of the game. Even with the obvious importance of the outcome, John Reel and the Fish didn't want the game to be decided by hitting the ball to an open outfield spot. There is at least one team in this league that could learn from the example of this sportsmanship. Enough said.
Whining.....er... uh.... I mean winning has nothing to do with sportsmanship.
Why is there is a lack of sportsmanship on the Whining O'holes?
Here are a few possibilities. Which one is the cause?
1) All focus is on the $10 Trophy 2) All-League Nomination = Super Hero Status 3) Pecans for Nuts 4) CDMSBL Hall of Fame Eligibility 5) +38 Division "A" Winner 6) Mike Girard Dancing around CBA with Last Years Finals Trophy 7) All of the above
Answer:
Believe it or not, #7 is the cause of all the Whining O'holes problems.
TO BRIAN, YOU FORGOT #8 PUTTING YOUR NAME ON THE MESSAGE BOARD... AT LEAST ROSSITER PUTS HIS NAME ON THE BOARD VOICING HIS DISPLEASURE W/THE O'S...YOU ON THE OTHER HAND CHOOSE NOT TO. IT ALSO SEEMS THAT SPORTSMANSHIP IS A TWO WAY STREET IN REGARDS TO TEAMS. IT SEEMS LIKE O'S-MARLINS GAMES LACK SPORTSMANSHIP ON BOTH SIDES BECAUSE BOTH TEAMS ARE COMPETING TO WIN AS HARD AS THEY CAN. RIVALRIES IN SPORTS CAN HAVE AN EDGE TO THEM AND IT SEEMS THAT GUYS GETTING HIT INTENTIONALLY,HARD SLIDES,COMPLAINING ARE PART OF THE RIVALRY THAT EXISTS THERE. IT IS NOT ALWAYS PEACHES AND CREAM ON THE BALLFIELD UNFORTUNATELY. SIGNED MARIO REAL NAME MARIO
Mario, Thanks for the back-up on that post. As you all know im registered as BD Rossiter and I have in fact voiced my opinion on issues regarding the Orioles and the problems associated with their manager. The Brian listed here is not me and in fact Ive iniated an investigation regarding the IP address being used to send such e-mails. Sounds alot like Jim Balogne or Maloney or Mahoney. Needless to say I rarely go here but was advised of a posting on the DB by Tony Nardacci. Actually enjoying the season off without the headaches associated playing on a team managed by Dick Stark Looking forward to next year when hes gone and back playing with friends and having fun again. Anybody needs to get ahold of me call me at the DA's office 270-4013. BD Rossiter
Mike your correct and I totally agree that the Marlins are a first class club. Its about playing and having fun. Needless to say maybe some individual should learn about sportmanship and understand that the CDSML is about playing baseball and having fun and not about winning a $20.00 trophy.
BRIAN, I AGREE THE MARLINS ARE A GREAT,CLASSY TEAM BUT THEY WANT TO WIN THAT $20 TROPHY AS MUCH AS ANYONE OUT THERE. MIKE GIRARD AND THE REST OF THE MARLINS WANT TO WIN AND THEY HAVE SOME GUYS THAT WOULDNT BE CALLED "LEVEL HEADED" ON THEIR SQUAD ALSO. IT IS AGAIN PART OF THE GAME W/TEAMS THAT HAVE COMPETITIVE/HARD NOSED PLAYERS. THERE IS A MIXTURE IN THIS LEAGUE OF PLAYERS WHO ARE OUT TO HAVE FUN REGARDLESS OF SCORES AND GUYS WHO WANT TO WIN AND HATE TO LOSE. TO BLAME ONE TEAM AS THE PROBLEM IS NOT FAIR.
I see the term class act thrown around on this bulletin board quite a bit. I am sure the definition doesn't include taking shots at teams, players and managers.
A class act would pull me aside when they see me at a game and tell me what they thought of my team or me face to face. So far not one class act has approached me.
If you are not scheduled to run into me again this year you can always call me on my cell at 466-7643. I would be most happy to HEAR what you have to say instead of reading it.
Here is the funny thing! I was talking about the Pirates, when I started this. I am sorry that it opened this whole discussion. When we played the Pirates two or three weeks ago, we only had eight players. The Pirates had 15 or 16. Jimmy Preller decided that they would not loan us a right fielder. That is the act of sportsmanship to which I was referring. They have been the only team in this league, in the 17 years that I have been involved with it, that refused to loan a right fielder to an opposing team that had only eight players. It still is well within the rules for him to refuse, and it worked out great for his team, as they gained about 20 extra bases during the game from the open spot, and ended up winning the game by one run. His call, and he has to live with it. I am proud to play with a manager that has never refused an extra runner or a loan of a player, no matter how important the game. Now Dick, I find it very enlightening that the minute I made a generic statement about "poor sportsmanship" ( I thought Mr. Preller would know who I was referring to) the entire world thought that I was talking about the Aging Orioles. That should tell you all you need to know.
I saw the post, Mike Girard, thought it was a cheap shot -- and at the same time self-aggrandizing, as usual -- three weeks after the fact and decided to ignore it. Suffice to say that I strongly disagree with your thesis. This isn't the place for that. We can discuss the differences in those two wildly different game situations privately.
But, hey, whatever. You don't need to pat yourself on the back so hard or so often.
I recognize that you feel the Pirates can learn about "sportsmanship" from you and the Marlins. Sorry we didn't help the league champs and self-proclaimed "class acts" of the league beat us a few weeks ago. Duly noted. And I love how so often in these situations -- one team comes prepared, the other doesn't, and makes no effort to borrow players -- that it often comes down to the prepared team being "the bad guys," the poor sportsman. Well here's an idea: Show up for the game. And show us that respect. And stop whining about it.
No, The real funny thing is how a recap of a Silver Marlin/Giant game turns out to be a Warren Commission inquiry of the the Whining O-Holes (Priceless) The only things I got out of the posts above are. 1. Silver Marlins won 10-8 2. Pecans ARE Nuts 3. The Championship Trophy is not to expensive 4. Mike Girard is a good dancer 5. Brian (whoever you are x o-hole) Is not a big fan of the Orioles......
Typical Jimmy, You were prepared and we were'nt. I'm sure that you have never had players tell you that they would be there and then have them not show. Don't worry about us being prepared from here on out for the Pirates. We'll be prepared! Look at me making more friends!
