UMPIRES

The bulletin board has contained posts recently, with regard to lack of officials, calls of officials, and their on-filed comportment. It would be greatly appreciated if all concerned would handle any issues by contacting me directly at (518) 331-3449.
If I am on-field, I will return your call as soon as possible. As info to all players/managers:

1) I schedule over 1500 game per year including 400+ with CD-MSBL. I rely on the CD-MSBL web-site for all schedule, scheduling changes, and make-ups.
I cannot take phone calls, e-mails, or voice mails (especially within 12 hours of a scheduled game that changes site/time), and make re-assignments. This has been on-going, and resulted in games not being covered. K. Jackson is diligent in getting changes posted to the web-site schedule, and I will pick them up accordingly.

2) RE: quality of officials. I need to know when you feel an official is not putting in the effort to hustle, get in position consistently. and adminstrate the game in a fair and professional manner. I don't want to hear that a guy is too old, not friendly, seemed to have a bad day, or made "bad" calls on judgement plays that went against you. If you feel a rule has been misapplied, please do not call me during your game, because I will not help you. The officials on-site will deal with your immediate issue, and if you feel a misapplication of a rule has occurred, you may elect to play the game under protest. (this is for misapplied rules ONLY, not a judgement call on safe/out, fair/foul, ball/strike).

Missed assigments, where umpires have blown off games has not occurred. What has happened, during the course of the season, is that change were made on site/times, and not effectively communicated. This happened on a double header at Averill Park (28s) in May, and again yesterday on a 47s, where a different field was communicated to the teams, but not on the web-site. We have had to use one umpire on two occasions (high school season), and missed 1 game that was schedule and was an oversight on my part. If there have been others, I need to be made aware of them.

Overall, the season has pregessed smoothly, and the interaction with umps and players/managers has been very positive. Thanks to all for your efforts.

Please, if you have issues, contact me directly, vs. involving numerous, non-concerned parties in a bulletin board posting. Thanks.

To league officials, I was a little upset the other day, hence my verbal barrage. In all of that, I neglected to say that throughout the year, the officiating has been outstanding. One instance of a mis-communication should not a season make. So to JD, my apologizes for that. Let's suck it up and move on!!!!!
