The Silver Marlins went down to Gruner last night for our annual 9 vs. 10 game. We got what we expected: the nine best guys that the Hummers could put together, including two guys (Ronnie Coons and Clayton) who were playing their first game of the season for the Hummers. We also got their 37 year old left hander l. . . and last but certainly not least, we had a home plate umpire that had two different strike zones. Phil Gadomski threw brilliantly to a strike zone that was about the size of a grapefruit (giving up just three runs). The young fella for the Hummers was just one run better with a strike zone that was much wider and much lower. The winning run was scored by a batter that reached base on a full count walk. The guy didn't even twitch at six pitches that were all very hittable. A disappointing outcome of a very well played game by both teams.
If it sounds like sour grapes, it probably is. These guys travel an hour or more for about two thirds of their games up here, so maybe a little "home cookin" is what they deserve. Still, I look forward to an oppotunity to play them with some neutral umps. Here's hoping that we see the Hummers in the playoffs!!!
