Pirates close out the regular season, beating the Jays in a 5 1/2 inning game. Mike Kane, Richie Knaupp, and Steve Lounello threw two innings each, holding the blue birds to three hits. Offensively, the Bucs banged out 18 hits, with two each from Kane, Smaka, Agneta, Johnson, and Zamory -- while Moreau went 3-3.
The Pirates finish at 13-6-1. Statistical oddity: In our six years as a team, our winning percentage has improved every year, often just barely (we were 12-6-2 last year). The secret? Start at 2-19, there's only one direction to go.
Hey, we lost Jimmy Jordan this past fall, our shortstop and top postgame raconteur; so we're trying to keep him in mind, play with glad hearts, and be grateful for each day.
Good luck in the playoffs, everybody. Try to enjoy it.
