Bob Bolt threw a complete game 4 hitter as the Orioles took game one of the best of three series 2-1 last night.
The Orioles capitalized on a pair of first inning walks by Marlins starter Jim Latorre and eventually scored a run on an rbi groundout by Doug Reisinger. The O's made it 2-0 in the third on a clutch two out single by John Pologa.
Bolt meanwhile kept the Marlins scoreless through 6 innings. In the top of the seventh Paul Myles led off wih an infield hit and Randy Craft followed with a booming double to left center. Mike Girard followed with a gounder to third and both runners had to hold. Chuck Sohl then hit a long drive to center to score Myles, Craft alertly tagged and went to third. Dave Mitchell then hit a smash in the hole between third and short; third baseman Doug Reisinger managed to get a glove on it deflecting the ball to shortstop Dennis Buckley deep in the hole who rifled a throw to first to beat the runner by a half a step.
Great pitching and defense by both teams all night; a classic game.
Game two is Tuesday September 5th at "A" Diamond with game three scheduled for Wednesday night September 6th at the same location.
Dick failed to mention some spectacular fielding at first base by Mario Arduini. Mario made an over the shoulder catch down the right field line, and saved a couple of throwing errors for his teammates. It was lost in the excitement of the last inning, but not lost on this first baseman. Great job Mario. Those who ventured out to Bob Moore last night were treated to a classic game between two teams that play at a very high level for guys 38 and over. There was no foolishness to hide what was a great game by all involved. If you miss the exciting conclusion next week you will be sorry.
