What a great day to play two!!!

Saturday at New Scotland was about as perfect a day weather-wise as could have
been dreamed up. The 38+ and 47+ All-Stars took complete advantage and made the most of it. The 47+ game kicked off at noon and went down to the final at bat, as the game was decided by a bases loaded hit batter (that happened somewhere else this past year). Immediately the game was followed by a home run derby and a brief ceremony for the Roberto's Kids Foundation, who made out very well due to the generosity of many CDMSBL'ers. Then it was on to the 38+ All-Star game which ended in a tie (4-4) after 7 complete innings. All in all, a super day at the ball park!!!
Sorry Honey, but I couldn't dream up a better way to spend an early October Saturday!

Too bad the 28's weren't deciding a championship on such a perfect weekend.
Bryce, are you to blame for this also?!

Congrats to all who played in the 38 and 47 league all star games. Its an honor to be part of this type of atmosphere.

I think it is amazing that everyone donated money for the cause. I think if we made it open to the 28's as well and did some type of fund raising we could have brought in some tv crews and raised more money to help out all involved.

well said, mike.

i spoke with steve pindar of roberto's kids after the game. he and his wife lisa estimated that we'd donated "between 500 and 700 pounds" of equipment - all of which will go to poor kids in latin america. their goal is to multiply by 10 the amount they sent last year. last year, they sent 5 tons - 10,000 pounds. this year the goal is 100,000 pounds. we are a part of that, and steve and lisa were very grateful and asked that i pass on a tip of the cap to you all.

it was especially touching to hear from kevin jackson, as i pulled in on saturday and the 47 all-stars were pulling out, that he saw several 47 all stars stop at the equipment area and just donate gloves and bats and spikes they'd just been using as they left the park. that says volumes about the quality of the guys in the league. it was two all-star games of another level this year.

to respond to quentin's comment - i suggest we take up mike's idea and have all three games in one day. if we do this next year - and i'd like to - that would make donations so much easier.

for people who'd stiill like to donate equipment or money (i'm assuming it's tax deductible) you can mail your donations directly to steve. you can also write or call him.
