Raffs surgery

Former Marlin and Hall of Famer George Rafferty will be having heart surgery this Tues. 11/28 to repair a leaky valve. Prognosis for his sugery is good, but guarded. Recovery will take time and George is obviously concerned. Please reply to this post with a note for George for a speedy recovery and I'll have him check the site later this week when he's up and around.

Thanks
Crafty

you were always a tough out for any pitcher, certainly for me. i expect you will continue to be that in the weeks ahead. think nothing but good thoughts - of hitting proverbial long ones. luck be with you.

Hey buddy, once all the leaks are plugged, work with Randy and Mitch on a program and maybe we will see you back in a Marlins jersey in 2007.
Godspeed George!!!

George, get well old friend. Recent Florida success made me think of that magic you made in Portland Maine. As rich as this championship is I still hold that victory, and the sight you circling the bags after that twilight bottom of the ninth blast to beat Boston, amoung my fondest memories. We'll see you soon . J Reel, PS always welcome in Teal.

Raff,

We are all thinking of you this morning and praying that your surgery went well. If the Doc gives you the green light after your recovery, I hope you consider what many have mentioned on the bulletin board - come back to the field!!! If you can't play full time - come on back part time and then we'll lure you back to full time once we get a hold of you. The whole league misses you and your tremendous talents in the game of baseball. We would love to join you this Winter or Spring at the All Star Academy to help you prepare for this season. I'll never forget my first year back in baseball in 1994 wuith the Troy Yankees and having the honor of being your teammate. At the first practice at Lansingburgh, I was playing third. I took a throw from you from deep in the right field corner. The friggin' ball came in on one hop and never got higher than 6' off the ground. I asked Dinova and Pierce - "Who the hell is that guy??". That said it's Raff and you ain't seen nothing yet!! They were not kidding!! There were many times when I noticed you and Pierce sitting on the bench between innings quitely talking about hitting and defensive stategy. I said to myself - "there are 2 of the best and most knowledgeable players I know (just need to throw Craft in the mix) and I wanna listen in on this" - so I did and learned a lot - thanks.

Recover quick, Raff and follow doctors orders.

Randy - thanks for letting us know. Are your shorts ridin' high??

Hats off to Tampa Security. They know trouble when they see it. We're not buying "mild buzz" - more like "friggin smashed".

George,

A winner on the field, carry it over off the field. Just as you pulled the ball through the right side,we're all pulling for you to come out of this right. Hope to see you on the diamond again.

Hey Krav,

Thanks for all the compliments, it means the world to me. I'm feeling better, and will find out more this Thursday. I had complications after the surgery,a collapsed lung, neumothorax, and atrial fib. I was in the hospital for thirteen days and went through three roommates. I finally went home before my third roomate. But things are looking up, keep me in your prayers, and just maybe, I'll be back on that field.

Thanks
Raff

Mike,

The heart was sliced open, and the leaks are plugged. Congrats on your championship in Florida. As far as a program is concerned, the last program I saw in your hands was at the Saratoga flat track.
P.S.
I would love to come back to wear that Marlin uniform, but if I do, you may never win another batting title.
Great hearing from you!

Hey Raff,
I would love nothing more than to be moved down in the line-up because you are back. As far as batting titles go I can't even get the highest batting average on the Marlins anymore, not unless I learn to bunt like Craft.
Have a healthy and happy holiday season and enjoy your "second chance"!

Mike,

What I'd like to know is how the hell Craft makes it to first base before the fielder throws him out. Is he Randy fleet afoot, this I've got to see for myself.
All kidding aside, I am so proud of you guys winning it all in Florida. For years I have always believed that there is a ton of talent from our area (you included) I've seen it the twilight league, and I've seen it in our over thirty and forty leagues. Those southern boys rarely have any respect for us northeners, so I'm proud that you guys gave them a wake up call. I wish I was part of it, it must have been awesome!
One of my biggest thrills was coaching with the South Troy Dodgers in 2000, when we finished second in the country. Even then, everybody underestimated us, it was amazing to me that our local kids from a 40 mile radius, defeated ballplayers that were handpicked from various parts of the country. In fact I'm not sure if you realize this or not, but our little South Troy Team defeated Texas that year. The losing pitcher from Texas was Houston Street. I kid you not!

I'll never forget that either, for a variety of reasons. I remember before the game, I was talking about how sore and tired I was with Randy Craft. At that point in time, one of the Boston players walked buy, I tried to be nice, and have a conversation with him. He was the most arrogant s.o.b. I ever met, he was telling Craft and myself that his team never gets tired and that they basically were going to hand us our heads on a platter that day. I had all I could do to contain Randy from punching the guy out. Ironically, he was the guy I hit the homer off to win the game. I usually try to practice good sportsmanship, but when I hit that home run, I started yelling at the s.o.b. I think I said, you looked tired on that one buddy, stick it up your bleep!
I also remember some awesome defense in the eight inning. I still don't know how Craft threw that guy out at the plate, it was amazing. Champioships are never won by one player, it is always a team effort. You guys have some great teams. Congrats with Florida, I wish I was there to see it.

Hey Mane,

How are you buddy, I miss you? I saw the article in the paper about you-loved it. Mane, I've had nothing but respect from you from day one. From our years spent in the twilight league, to our years with the over thirty and forties. Your talent, drive, toughness, team spirit, is second to none. I miss the competition, and I miss being around ballplayers who fight to win. Hope to see you soon!
