i'm wondering if someone who took notes at the league meeting - and the managers' meetings that followed - will be good enough to write them up and tell everybody what happened?
i was there, didn't take notes, but can tell guys that we elected a new board - without, for the first time in what? 13 years, john reel, who chose not to run again, to allow others to join the board. which is big news. he'll stay on as manager of the marlins (and league president? is that something separate from board president?), but his presence on the board will be missed.
we also talked about possibly phasing in the national's new age divisions in 2008. msbl national is going to 25+, 35+, 45+, 55+ and 65+ for tournaments starting in 2007. it was suggested that we'll use those age groupings for the labor day tournament - if the board votes to hold one this year.
i'm also grateful, more than i can say here, for having received the jim jordan sportsmanship award. it surprised and pleased me deeply. to pete and ron who've written congratulations here, and to others who've wished me the same, thank you.
Mike, congrats on receiving the Jim Jordan Sportsmanship Award. Although I think this is great news, I have to tell you that this is the first I've even heard that there was such an award. As much as I think the league does a great job in so many ways, I think it's a shame that the communication of what transpires in our league is not communicated to the members. We have this wonderful tool of the web site and yet the league doesn't use it. It would be wonderful if the site listed the officers, their e mail addresses, and even minutes of the meetings as well as other facts. Quite frankly, I'm a bit tired of seeing that the Hummingbirds are in the news for the 2004 Snow Bowl. Does anyone update this site? I also realize that being a web master entails a lot of work. So why don't we compensate someone just as we do the officers? If it wasn't for the bulletin board, there would be no communication of what's going on in our league... a comprehensive web site can only make our league more visible and provide effective PR...

Actually, if you use the right site the process can be quite simple, set-up is the most time consuming. I would recommend we keep this site for issues that arise for the entire league, but I would suggest that each division (28's, 38's and 47's) each get their own site for use in division-specific information gathering and broadcasting. As the administrator for the 28+ site, I'd be happy to sit with someone and give them a tutorial on the basics of the site that we use and show how easy it can be.
For those who haven't seen it, here's the link to the 28+ site:
It hasn't been updated since the All-star game but it gives you an idea of what it looks like and whn I get the information and specifics from the meeting I will write something up and post it. I can say that it solves a lot of problems, but stat-tracking for record purposes creates a whole new set of problems that we still need to work on in terms of scoring, but it was a start and we look forward to using this further.

ray - thanks so much for your kind comment. very nice of you. i said at the meeting that i could think of many guys in the league equally deserving: you'd be one.
here's hoping you and your family have a fine holiday season.
