Marty Bailey and three pitchers led the Giants. Bailey made a spectacular diving catch to save a run, then caught a deep drive while sprinting to right-center to save another. He also tripled in the fifth, then set up the Giants 2-run rally in the 7th with a perfect bunt to move runners to 2nd and 3rd. After an intentional walk to Jimmy Keegan, Bill Smith drew a game-tying walk before Wayne Philips' grounder to first was misplayed, alowing the winning run to score.
Jerry Solomon pitched the first 4, allowing 2 runs. Philips pitched the next two, allowing one unearned run to give the A's a 3-2 lead. Joe Rispole shut down the A's in the 7th to set up the Giants' winning rally.
