It was a beautiful night for baseball at SUNY last night when the Reds and Mets squared off. The Mets jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the first. The Reds came back with 2 in the second and 3 more in the third. Joe burns pitched a complete game for the Reds striking out 4 and walking 2. Steve Vangelder went 2-3 W/ 2 RBI's, Rick Koster 2-3 W/ 1RBI. Ken Zimmer 2 RBI's. For the Mets lead off hitter Herleit went 3-3 and crossed the plate twice. A great game was played by both sides. The Reds face the A's on Monday at SUNY.
A great effort by both teams, Rookie Mike Hempele started and pitched the first 3 innings. A couple miscues led to his demise. He will definitely improve off this game. Lex Herrlett relieved and gave up only 1 more run the rest of the way. Joey pitched a good game for the red's. We look forwards to the next time, and Zip ( Ret????) stick around for a beer.
