Behind the fine pitching of Dave Foreman (also his hitting, including a 3 bagger) the Black Sox won their second game of the year. Mark Myers with 2 triples and a double and 5 rbi led the hit parade. Several Black Sox hitters had a multiple hit game including Reuter, Sarubbi, Musella, and Fish. The Cougars didn't want to give up and that's a good sign. I think Frank has a core of good ballplayers such as, Quinn, Puhala and Singer and with more games under their belts will become more competitive. Also, their scheduled pitcher wasn't able to make the game, and we all know, at any level of ball, pitching is key, but Frank and his Cougars came and played hard.
Thanks to Don Wixon for his complimentary and encouraging remarks. Don epitomizes the dedication and grit it takes to be successful in this league, and is among the finest individuals I've had the pleasure to play with and against.
The Black Sox are good--period. They hit the tar out of the ball, ran us ragged, and made every play in the field. They could have easily run up the score on a day that the Cougars should have stayed in bed, but mercifully elected not to. They're not just good, but a good bunch of guys.
And, in parting, can anyone who has seen Joe Sarubbi run this year believe that he used to have problems with his knee? I'm praying that I hurt myself the same way Joe did.
