With rain showers all over the capital district last night, who would have believed that the White Sox and Silver Marlins would get a 7 inning game in at Bethlehem Town Park. That field is wet in the middle of August. When John Reel said that the game hadn't been called by 5:00, I thought that I was going to be taking a "waste of gas" ride in the car to visit with the boys, look at some puddles, and return home. Big surprise! When we got to the park, the field was in the best shape I have ever seen. The game went on, as scheduled, and the Marlins prevailed 9-1 behind another strong pitching effort from Phil Gadomski. Skip Treece hit the ball hard all night in a 3-hit performance. Side note: The Marlins wish Ron "Sparky" Lochner a quick recovery (by Friday would be nice). Ron fouled an inside pitch off his own face. The eye swelled up real big and Ron was unable to continue, but once the eye returns to normal, Ron will be terrorizing opposing third basemen again with his screaming liners. Keep the ice on it big guy.
That Ron guy is a tough guy. The bruise under his eye from the ball was nasty but he stayed the whole game to support his team. I hope there is no permanent damage and everything returns to normal ASAP.
Bethlehem takes a soakin and no puddles? in fact it was just right? whatever is being done there is working. I've played there since the mid 80's and its never been this good!?!? but would it be asking too much to move that old back stop in left field...it doesn't look like they are going to revitalize that second field. and I look forward to the promised installation of the plastic snow fence all around. White Sox, a good cohesive team that has prosperred from a new image.
