Reds 9 - Bluejays 6

The Reds and Bluejays squared off Friday night in Ravena. Each team scored 2 in the first with the Jays going up by 1 in in the 3rd and adding 3 more in the 5th. The bats got going in the 5th for the Reds scoring 5 runs with Jeff Dovigh hitting a bases loaded triple to start the scoring for the Reds. Joe Burns went the distance for the Reds striking out 5 and also going 3-4 scoring 3 runs. Caputo and Celantano each went 2-4 for the Jays. A great game played by all.

Reds: Congratulations on the win - you guys played a great game. Joe Burns pitched very well - with a great mix of his fastball and hard-breaking curve. Jeff Dovigh's bases-clearing triple did some serious damage to the lead we held at that time. For the Jays, I'd also like to acknowledge the second fine pitching performance by Andy Sheen this season. Thanks for re-joining the team, Andy. I don't have the book in front of me, but Mike Eplite had 2 or 3 hits with some key RBI's. I think Ray Meandro also had 2 hits. Brain Maiello smashed an extra base hit at a critical point in the game and also scored from the middle of a rundown that he was in that I did not think was possible. Dave Webber, in his rookie year in the CDMSBL has provided spark and fire to the team with his hustling play and insistance on "giving it all". His hitting, speed and defensive skills are becoming more obvious with each game he plays. Us Jays were very disappointed in the loss but both teams played well with great sportsmanship and respect - which are key ingredients to great games and a longlasting, successful league. You Reds always play hard and never quit. Win or lose - by a narrow margin or a large margin - you do it with class - that is appreciated throughout the year by your fellow teams. You have been that way since you joined the CDMSBL. You have been a great addition to the league - thanks for becoming part of it.
