28+ Cubbies celebrate big weekend!!!

On Saturday, the Mohawk Division leading Cubs beat the Cardinals 13-1 in 5 innings, while the second place Brewers were being beaten 7-4 by the Tigers. This set-up the showdown Sunday at the A-diamond. If the Brewers could beat the Cubs it would even the season series between the two teams at 1 each and would leave them just one game behind the Cubs in the loss column. If the Cubs could defeat the Brewers, they would have a 3 game lead in the loss column and a guarantee of winning the season series (the first tie-breaker).
With all of this on the line, games rarely meet expectations. This one happened to be a classic. The Cubs scored 1 in the top of the first with three consecutive singles after two were out and nobody on. The Brewers answered with 2 in the bottom of the first. The next 5 innings zipped by with Jon Martin and the Brewers starter pitching well. The only runs scored were two by the Cubs in the top of the fifth to make the score 3-2. The seventh inning saw the Cubs pick up two insurance runs on a single, a couple of misplayed bunts, a ground out, and a sacrifice fly. The Brewers never gave up and came back to score two runs and load the bases with just one out.
With the tying run on third and the winning run on second, Ron Massaroni (on in relief) struck out the last two batters to secure the win. The victory has the Cubs atop the Mohawk division at 8-2, with the Brewers in second place at 6-5.
