Weather forecast - stifling heat, thunder and lightning. Baseball forecast - Black Sox's Johnson vs. Dodger's Conlin. In their first meeting, the two teams played a tight game with the Black Sox coming out on top 4-2. The Sox leadoff man reached first on a single. Conlin kept him close with several tosses to first. As Conlin came home with his pitch the runner broke for second. Lightning struck! Not from the skies, but through the arm of Dodger's catcher LaBarge who easily threw out the runner attempting to steal second. Musella walked and ended up scoring for the Black Sox, but not before being nearly nailed by LaBarge on a steal of second. Dodger confidence is showing and later in the inning they catch Ramos trying to score from third. The Dodger's come to bat to challenge Johnson. Rodriguez, with his speed, reaches first on an error. Johnson delivers to the plate, and again, lightning strikes, this time through the arm of Black Sox catcher Myers, as he foils the Dodger's attempted theft of second. Johnson retires the next two batters. The teams trade runs in the second, the Dodgers coming without the benefit of a hit. The Dodgers score again in the third, and as in the second without the benefit of a hit. The double H of the day, heat and humidity, are taking their toll. First, Reardon of the Dodgers begins his trip to first after a walk only to be felled by a severe cramp to his calf. Then, at the beginning of the next inning Tarwerdi, the Doger's leftfielder goes down with a hurt leg, and is replaced by, who else, Reardon. Meanwhile, the Black Sox have taken a 5- 2 lead by way of some hot bats. More impressive than the heat was the coolness Mark Johnson was showing on the mound, holding the Dodger's hitless. Doug Z. led off the last inning for the Dodger's and sizzled a line drive to right. As he turned to head to first with the Dodger's first hit a cramp felled him after one step and the Black Sox right fielder threw to first getting the out. This turned out to be the Doger's last best chance at breaking up Johnson's no-hitter. Behind the thunder off the bats of Gary Fish, Dennis Reuter and Glen Ramos and the "stifling" no-hit pitching of Mark Johnson the Black Sox beat the Dodgers 12-2. Ed and fellow Dodgers I hope what befell you today will not vex you for the rest of the season.
WOW! A no-no for MJ. Nice job, especially since the Dodgers have some quality bats on that team - that is, I mean, the guys who swing them. MJ threw a nice game aganst the Giants in the 38 division, so I knew 47 teams would have their hands full, too. Plus, he's a class guy.
And Mike L. tossing out would-be base-stealers like Johnny Bench used to do? Very, very nice.
While I strongly dislike the MLB Dodgers, I admire the CDMSBL version. And the Black Sox? Damn, that team is good. Not looking forward to playing them again. Jim Konstanakis Hornets
Good game played by the black sox.Good game pitched by the sox pitcher. This was a 5 inninng game and my book showed 2 hits by the dodgers. Not trying to take anything away from the pitcher because he pitched a great game. But this is another example where we all keep different books. What may be a hit to 1 team may be a error to another.Don has put together a really good team and 1 I would not want to play in the play-offs.Hats off to Don and the Black Sox.
