On a gorgeous sunny day in Voorheesvile, the Yankees came out to play ball against Blue Thunder in their final meeting of the regular season. The Yankees were victorious in their first outing 9-3 and Blue Thunder was seeking to even the series. From the first pitch of the game to the final out, the game was nothing less than spectacular. What a game. Great pitching between the Yankee's Ralph Caputo / Artie Gianankos and Blue Thunder's Jim Hayden, great fielding from both teams and great timely hitting on both sides. Yankees score in the top of the first, Blue Thunder score two in their half. Blue Thunder scores in the bottom of the third to go ahead 3-1, Yankees score in the top of the fourth 3-2, Blue Thunder score in their half 4-2, Yankees score in the top of the fifth, score 4-3. What a game. The final two innings of play were scoreless with both teams having opportunites to put more runs on the scoreboard. The Yankees never let up and put runners on first and second in their half of the seventh. What a game. When Blue Thunder's John Hayden fielded a groundball to his right and stepped on second for the final out, Blue Thunder walked away with a hard fought, bone chilling, nail biting 4-3 victory, ending a eight game losing streak. Thank you to Paul Celentano and the entire Yankee team for defining that day why "we do it for the love of the game". Great comradery, great sportmanship and great baseball. What a game !!! Next game for the Yankees (7/29 versus the Marlins) and for Blue Thunder (8/2 versus the Dodgers).
