The White Sox remained unbeaten at their new home, Rotterdam Memorial Park, in garnering their 2nd win in as many tries, in their new cozy confines........the Pale Hose erupted for 7 runs in the bottom of the first off Highlanders starter Dave Reed, as the Purple had a couple of defensive lapses around 2-run singles by Bill Phillips and Mark ("Magic" as he known to the stadium P.A. boys) Johnson to go up 7-0 after one frame. The Chisox starter almost gave it all back in the second, as the Highlanders plated 5 runs with hits at tail end of the order from Dave Stroud, Cos DeBari, and Mike Barber, and rbi hits by leadoff man Lenny Rehbon (sp.).....both starters settled in with White Sox allowing no more runs in 3rd, 4th, or 5th, while Sox added a 3-spot and 2-spot in successive innings, highlited by Ralph Marrero's (playing under alias of R. Clemente) making a good tag on an attempted 2B steal, and the singling up middle, stealing 2B, and scoring on a Rick Caruso Sac Fly...Johnson took the bump in the sixth, and escaped with a run scoring double by Kevin Jackson in the sixth, and hanging a goose egg 7th on the Highlanders. Big bats for White Sox included Joe Del Torto 2-4 with 2 ribbies, and Caruso with a 3-bagger and single and 3 runs scored.....White Sox head to Gruner on Friday, while Highlanders tangle with the Blue Jays at Voorheesville
Also a great job by White Sox starting pitcher, Jim Dalton who earned his first victory of the season. In addition, there were 2 great defensive plays by first baseman, Read Sheppard and by left fielder Kenny Glenmeyer. A very nice performance by the Highlanders catcher (Don Dunham) and White Sox catchers (Joe Del Torto and Fred Phillips) for dealing with the heat and humidity.
