The White Sox closed their regular season with a 16 - 9 "W" over the Highlanders Thursday, at Memorial Park in Rotterdam. The Sox jumped to a 4-0 advantage after 2 1/2 innings on 2 of 3 Bill Phillips singles on the night (rbi and 2 R), and rbi 3-bagger by Rick Caruso, and a solid bingle by Rodney Dunbar.......Highlanders charged back in bottom 3rd with 6 tallies, on ribby singles by Kevin Jackson, Bill Griffin, and John Kalinski, and Pale Hose chipped in 3 miscues to help the Purple to a 6-4 lead. White Sox rallied for 4 in the 4th with key hits by Don McCann (2B), and rbi knocks by Joe Del Torto and Fred Phillips to go up 8-6. There was no quit in Cos DeBari's boys as they plated three runs in bottom of the 4th on a DeBari single, T. J. Scorsone single and a 2-out, 2 rbi hit by Kalinski to re-take the lead at 9-8. WP Vince Koster wiggled out of bags jammed, no out pressure cooker, inducing a 1-2-3 DP to escape damage in a scoreless 5th.
Chisox in their friendly confines (3-0, since moving there) took over in the 6th, pushing across a 6-spot, for 1 4-9 lead, with key hit a bases drunk clearing 3B by McCann. Sox added a pair of insurance runs in the 7th on ribby knock from F. Phillips, and Bob Noto to expand the margin to 16-9, while hometown hero Caruso relieved Koster with two scoreless frames to seal the deal, as both teams got in a final tune-up before the playoffs. Griffin from the Purple had a night with 3-4 ( 2 - 2Bs, and 3 - rbi)! Good luck to all in the 3layoffs!
