Good season, good playoffs and a great finish. Bob Bolt playoff MVP. he simply refused to lose getting the offense going with a bunt single, 2 stolen bases and the first O's score. On the mound he pitched until he couldn't. on behalf of the Silvers. Hats off. Silver's mgr J. Reel
i was just wondering how mitchell is? i really missed seeing him at the championship game and i know he wasn't there because of his dad. has anyone heard from him?
It was a great series. There wasn't a moment of relief until the final out landed in my glove. If Girard was a millimeter more under his last at bat, it would have been a whole different story.
Doc, great pitching performance, as usual. There were only a handful of hard hit balls all night. Great defense by both teams, great pitching by both teams. We just happened to get a couple to fall our way in the right spots.
Dave Mitchell, sorry to miss you that last game. I hope your Dad is doing well.
Mario and Dick, it would have been nice to have you with us for the ride this year, although I don't know where I would have played this year. Maybe DH in the 10B spot?
I'd also like to say thanks to Dave Topino for coming aboard this year. Not only did you pitch great for us all year (plus hit .450 or something!), but to win game one and then come in and get 4 HUGE outs against the cream of the Marlin offense was outstanding. Bobby, we already knew what you were able to do, but once again you rose to the challenge. Get that ankle healed, you're starting 1st game next year.
Anyhoo...everybody have a good winter. See ya in a couple of months. (Or weeks, for you Orioles going to the party!)
It was a great ballgame, and a total team effort by the O's with everybody contributing. Of special note was the pitching performance by Bob Bolt. As John said, he just refused to lose. It was obvious to all he was hurt, but he never gave an inch. To come up with a performance like that, in the biggest game of the year, was incredible.
In days leading up to the final game, several CDMSBL players said they thought the game lost its billing and the players lost interest because of the delay between games 2 and 3.
Well, it didn't take long for the fire to return and the adrenalin to flow. You could see the burning in Bolt's eyes and the intensity in Ansel's face right from the first pitch they each threw.
It was a great game to watch, and I'm sure, to be a part of.
I hope Ron Lochner's oblique heels quickly. That is a nasty injury, and for him to even take the field showed his toughness and passion for the game. And he's a class guy, too.
It was kinduv comical, however, when the sprinklers went off at 10 p.m., right when Ron was being helped off the field. I'm sure that didn't help his pain. I felt bad for him, but I still laughed. Sorry, buddy.
But in the end, the O's were better. Definitely the two best teams in the division this year. Too bad Stark and Arduini didn't get to be a part of it this year. They do represent the league well. Remember guys, Dick did put the team together!
As for the Marlins, John did another great job of getting his team in position to win another title. That's all any manager can do. It's a shame he hasn't been awarded manager of the year during his long tenure.
Paul also did a phenomiinal job and certainly deserves consideration this year.
Too bad it's over. Florida, here we come. Let's plan the all-star game and have some fun. Jim Konstantakis Giants manager
