In a rematch of last years finals, the Yankees took the first game again by defeating the defending champion Marlins 12-4 in the opening game. Jerry Solomon pitched a complete game, scattering five singles to pick up the victory. The Yanks responded to a two run Marlin first by getting 4 after two were out in the bottom of the inning. The offense compiled 14 hits with Steve VanGelder getting 3, including the game's only extra base hit. Dave Latina scored 4 runs while adding 2 hits, while Paul Celentano and Mike Eplite also had 2 hits each. The defense committed only a single error despite a three week layoff. Game two is 2:30 this Saturday (9/22) at the New Scotland field and game 3 (if needed) will be played Sunday, 9/23, 2:30 at the same New Scotland field.
These are two quality teams with a bunch of great guys playing(Artie included). It is hard to root for either team as you would like to see them both win. Good luck to both teams and have a great series. Can't wait til next year all ready.
