Another great CDMSBL baseball game was played Monday night. This game had the Shaskys visiting the Jays at New Scotland Town Park. The pitching for both teams was very good and the defense was solid. The Jays came out on top of this one by a score of 3-0, but the Shaskys were in it all the way and have the look of a significanly improved team. Jay's starter, Mike Maiello, went the full 7 innings and pitched a 2-hit shutout with 9 K's. The Shaskys starter, Cooney pitched 4 strong innings of 5-hit ball and he was relieved by ?????(need some help with the relief pitchers' name) in the fifth and pitched 2 very strong innings of shutout ball and didn't give up a hit. Both of the Shaskys pitchers look very good, Cooney utilizing a good mix of fast balls and big breakers while the reliever threw a little more heat, also mixing in a sharp and late-breaking curve. For the Jays, Steve Vangelder continued his hot hitting with 2 singles while Brian Maiello, Mike Maiello and Andy Sheen added a single each. The lead-off hitter, Leudez (not sure of spelling) and McCurty had the 2 singles for the Shaskys. It was a great game by 2 teams who showed each other a lot of respect. We also had another game where the umps did a fantastic job!!
Thanks for the gracious reporting of our game. Our relief pitcher who came in was Mark Callahan and our leadoff batter was Tony Melendez, for all of those keeping score. It was a very competitive yet friendly game. It's a wonderful feeling as we get out of the gates in our second season for The Shaskys to be involved so far in two very close games. It makes the whole experience a lot more fun. I'm looking forward to our rematch on July 17th at SUNY.
