The Cubbies and the Marlins got together for some fun Thursday night at West Albany. When these two teams get together the game is secondary to the after game cooler session, and this was again the case Thursday night. Game summary: The Silver Marlins had to juggle the defensive line-up due to a couple of injuries and one late arrival and that was very costly. The first three batters for the Cubs reached on errors and Dan Ryan followed with a grand slam. The Cubbies plated 5 unearned runs in the first. There were more errors and missed cutoffs in this one game, than I can remember in the last 20 Marlins games combined. Visiting dignitary Ted Martin and Joe Fitzgerald made the early lead stand up with solid pitching. Dan Ryan added a second home run, in his second at bat as the offensive standout for the Cubs. The Silver Marlins want to forget this one, and went a long way toward accomplishing that feat with an extended cooloer session after the game. It was a great time with good friends!
Dosen't get any better than last night as the Cubs and Marlins squared off for the second time this year. It took us two games but we actually mustered some hits and runs (several gift-wrapped) against the Marlins. Ted Martin made his debut for the new 37+ Cubbies and pitched as well as ever with excellent relief help from Joe Fitz. Dan Ryan loved the West Albany field with home runs in his first two at bats followed by a searing double in his third.
As Mr. Girard, who also homered indicated, the best part of the evening was the cooler session. (held away from the West Albany Park) We have all become great friends over the years and it is special when this bunch gets together. Looking forward to many more games, laughs, and cold ones with the Silvers!
