Pirates and Braves met last night at Ravena. With a heavy thunderstorm at about 3pm the field was questionable, but with some shovels, rakes and a wheelbarrow, the early arriving Pirates ground crew did a great job removing the mud and replacing it with some relatively dry dirt. The field was actually in very good shape by a few minutes after 6:00. The Pirates struck first, scoring 3 in the 1st inning and another 3 in the 2nd. In the top of 3, the Braves came back with 4 runs, adding 1 more in the 4th to close the gap to 6-5 Pirates. In the bottom of the 4th the Bucs returned the favor with 4 more and 1 in the 5th. Roger Mason of the Pirates pitched 5 innings, getting the "W" against Don Ball. Dwight Partridge had 3 hits and a diving catch to star for the Bucs. Robertson had a single and double to lead the Braves.
