The Silver Marlins enjoyed a good final week before a 9 day layoff. On Monday, the Fish rode a nice pitching performance by Chuck Sohl and Curt Coons' first homer of the year to beat the Shasky's 9-1. In this game apparently Randy Craft tried to set a new trend by wearing his batting helmet out to the field. It was pointed out to him by Ronnie Lochner that the mass of the general public might not be ready for such a drastic change in the normal set of "defensive equipment," and Randy went back to the bench to trade the helmet for a more conventional hat. Boy! Did I ever pick the wrong game to miss! Game two for the week was last night at New Scotland against the Braves. The game started with the Braves taking a 2-0 lead in the top of the first. The afore mentioned Randy Craft made sure that the lead did not stand up too long as he deposited a chin-high pitch over the left field wall for a game tying two-run homer. The Marlins plated three runs in innings 2 through 5 mainly on Braves misplays, as pitcher John Weber was effective pitching out of jam after jam. On the Marlins defensive side, Phil Gadomski was having an easier time of it as he had a four pitch inning and a ten pitch inning during that stretch. With the game at 5-2 in favor of the Marlins, the Fish used the sixth inning to break the game open. They collected eight hits from eight different Marlins to plate 6 runs. Dave Mitchell broke out his slump with three hits and Mike Clary went 4 for 4 to provide most of the offensive support. It was good to get on track as we break for the holiday and we look forward to a fun second half of the season in a very competitive league. Have a great holiday guys!!! I look forward to getting together again Friday, July 11th at New Scotland!
Somebody has to keep the rest of the "Fish" entertained in your absence Grandpa. Your days will be filled with senior moments sooner than you think. Base running will be a whole new adventure for you.....and us!! Good luck to the boys in Maine and NH
Congratulations on your homer Randy! I was wondering where those thin tire tracks came from that circled the bases. My mother said you can borrow her wheel chair for the next game too. I used to wear my helmet out to the field too.........In third grade!
Sorry Randy. I toyed with the idea of keeping that little senior moment a Marlin-Shasky secret, but I knew there were too many good friends like Tommy Maney and the Martin boys that would enjoy it too much! As for me having the senior moments, that has already started. Just ask the damn fam! They are worried that sometime soon old Gramps will be wandering around the wooded area around New Scotland looking for his way home!
