Ron Coon muscled a two-run homer during a three-run 4th to lift Kingston past the Giants Friday night at West Albany.
Coon didn't get it on the barrell, but he was strong enough to loft an off-speed pitch by Jim K. over the fence in center. The three runs came after two outs and no one on.
John LaTorre held the Giants scoreless till the 4th when Rob Malachowski hit a one-out homer to left. The Giants cut it to 3-2 in the 5th when Wayne Philips and Mario Arduini singled and Philips scored on an error.
Dan Maguire had a single and two stolen bases, and Carlos Llera had two singles and two stolen bases for the Giants, who now slip to 6-8. Llera also gunned down a runner at the plate with a perfect one-hop throw from right field that Billy Smith dug out to make the tag.
LaTorre struck out 8 and walked 1 before giving way to Coon with one on and no outs in the 7th to notch the save.
Jim Connolly had two singles and was robbed of a third hit by a great play by Philips at 3rd, who speared a wicked line drive and dove in to third ahead of the runner for the DP.
Coon also singled for the 'Birds, while Jerry Hawkins added two singles.
Jim K. scattered six hits in 5 innings, Steve Lounello pitched a perfect 6th and Jerry Solomon wiggled out of a 7th-inning jam for the Giants.
