The A's winning streak now stands at 5 and brings their record to 11-6 after a blowout win over the Shaskeys on Monday night at a HORRENDOUS Farnsworth Middle School field! Ed Class, Kevin Golden, Herb Cepeda and Jim Moore each had 2 hits in a 14 hit attack. The defense was solid turning 2 double plays and Wayne Newcomb got the win in his first start of the year scattering 5 hits while allowing just 2 runs. Next up for the A's is a clash with the Mets on Wednesday.
Note: David mentions a "HORRENDOUS Farnsworth Middle School" in his write-up above - that is a gross understatement. The infield has been planted with grass which is grown up everwhere except immediately around the bases. The infield and outfield had just been cut, leaving mounds and rows of thick grass everywhere. Absolutely no ground maintenance (other than the mowing I mentioned, which I guess we should have been grateful for considering what it COULD have looked like) had been done as the batters box was a huge hole and the basepaths were overgrown and rutty. It was the worst field I have ever played on - with Scotia Middle School running a close second because it is dangerous. You guys who complain about playing games at West Albany are crazy. It is a nicely maintained field with a real ballpark feel. It's not a cow pasture or a goat course like these two. So what if it is a little short - I think it makes the game more interesting. - Ray
I agree with Ray, West Albany BR Field isn't as bad as people have been saying. Farnsworth middle school's infield is like playing on the Mississippi River Delta during a drought with clumps of grass in the baselines.
Never played in Scotia, don't know the condition.
But, All of this years (and the following years) playoffs games should always be played on the best fields available....
