Joe Fitzgerald pitched the Cubs to the victory with relief help from Ron Massaroni and Jon Martin. Fitzgerald also had two hits and Dan Ryan homered for the Cubs.
Despite the short porches at West Albany, we've had several games there this year and all have been somewhat low scoring affairs that included home runs. The 6-2 loss last night and our 2-1 loss to the Orioles are indicative of that. In the 2-1 loss, each team homered. With some TLC on that infield, which the board will hopefully discuss in the off-season, that field could be great for the 36s and 45s next year.
What Jim McQuade also failed to say is that he made a spectacular sliding catch in left on an absolute rocket by Bill Smith late in the game. And, as we have done all season, the Giants left 8 runners on base in the first 4 innings, including once with the bases loaded and one out. What a difference a year makes, huh?
Last night's game also called after 6 (darkness).
So, off we go to finish the season: tonight in Kingston, Wed at WA and Thurs at the Knick.
Forecast I've seen so far calls for lots of rain Saturday and scattered T'storms for Sunday.
Only correction is the game went 7 innings- (jimmy, you made the last out in the 6th) - Still - like to see playoff games start at 5:30 at the latest - in fields without lights.
