The Shaskys took their first playoff game of the post-season for the second year in a row, then fell in the second game to repeat last year's performance.
Game 1 was a very tough battle with the White Sox. Both teams pounded out runs early, The Sox had a 5-2 lead after 2. The Shaskys plated 2 in the 3rd and 4 in the 4th to take the lead for good 8-5. The Shaskys added an insurance run in the 5th and the Sox made a bid to tie with 2 in the 6th but that ended the scoring at 9-7.
Rich Cooney pitched a gutsy complete game, staying focused in the last 2 innings to shut down the late rally attempts of the Sox. Mike Camoin helped out with a nice sliding stab in the 6th to rob a hit from Dolan.
For the Shaskys, Callahan and Marrufo each drove in 3, and Phelps drove in 2. Phillips went 4 for 4 and Tim Burns scored 3 runs.
In game 2, the A's had a great pitching performance from Kent keep the Shasky bats from doing any damage. Mark Callahan pitched for the Shaskys, and some poor fielding behind him and a few key hits by the A's led to the end of the Shasky's season. The final was 7-1.
Good luck to the A's in the playoffs and hats off to the Sox for a well played game that could have gone either way with a few breaks going the other way.
Thanks for a great year of baseball. In our second season it was fun to get to know so many more players this time around. We'll see all you folks next season!
