The Highlanders defeated the Jays in a playoff game today at Ichabod Crane by a score of 11-1. The Highlanders advance to the quarter-final round against the Hummingbirds - starting at Gruner Field Monday night. The Highlanders victory today was spear-headed by a fine pitching performance by John Kalinski who went the distance - giving up only 5 scattered singles. walking only 1 batter and striking out 5. The Highlanders scored fairly consistently throughout the game - and hit the ball very well. Hitting highlights for the Highlanders included 2 singles each by John Gorman, John Kalinski and Don Dunham; a triple by Jack Griffin; and a double by Kevin Jackson.
The Jays thank Kevin Jackson and the Highlanders for inviting us to join you for some fine burgers, sausage and booze after the game. Also our thanks to Kevin Jackson for getting to the field early Saturday morning to prep the field for play. Good luck during the rest of the playoffs!!
