Golden Marlins 7 - Cougars 1

Dennis Scimeca pitched 5 shut out innings after a rain and vacation induced almost month long lay-off. Pete Westfall provided the close , allowing a late run. the Goldens picked their spots at the plate and scored all they needed in the first inning with two outs and a Mike Girard double and some misplayed hits after. A fine day at the park after so many rainouts. Frank's cougars had some stellar plays , notably a left field grab in deep foul territory. They also had numerous hard hit balls snagged at short and CF. Those Cats don't lack a hard hitting offense. Good to see old teammate and original Golden Jeff Singer hitting in the three hole for them...and getting 2 knocks today! The Goldens stand with 1 loss and 10 wins.... with one to play and four more to schedule. Still lots of ball to play and see where we all land.

The game was also highlighted by the return of our favorite West Coast Marlin Teddy Poleto. Ted went 1-4 with an RBI single in the third. Teddy will be back with us through the labor day weekend. The Goldens also got two singles and two RBI's from second baseman Mike Lafave and two singles and an RBI from John Reel.

Sincerest thanks for your kind words, John. (In fact, we have the final score as 10-1.)

By the way, the Cougars player who made the fine catch in left was none other than Dave "The Magician" Plew, who was playing outfield for the first time this year.

With at least four strong pitchers and a lineup that can wreak destruction from top to bottom, the Marlins are a force to be reckoned with. The only thing I would add to John's gracious recap is to recognize the hard-luck pitching performance of Cougars starter Andy "The Rocket" Andros.

With a little help from our defense (which committed a preposterous six errors behind him) Andy might have come away with only one run scored against him. Moreover, in his last outing versus the bat-wielding assassins who are the Yankees, Andy allowed only two runs on three hits over four innings (before the game was called for rain).

Simply put, The Rocket deserved better. Here's hoping we can play up to the level of his pitching in the future.
