Ed Klopfer pitched the WhizKids to a 1st round playoff victory over the Black Sox, 9-7. After giving up 4 runs in the 1st, he settled down as the game went on, getting stronger with each inning, and only gave up 1 earned run the rest of the way. The top of the order, Don Dennis, Jesse Braverman, Klopfer and Dave Palmer, each had 2 hits for the Whiz. After falling behind 6-3, the Whiz rallied for 6 runs in the 5th,as the 1st 5 batters hit safely, with the big hits being Palmer's rbi single, (3 RBI for the game) and Anthony Torre's 2-run double. The Sox took a 4-1 lead after 1, with hits by Ramos, Noto, Stanley, Aiello, and Foreman, sandwiched around a walk to Brian Musella (who always seems to get on base with 2 singles to go with his walk), and Mark Meyers , who was hit by a pitch. Manager Don Wixon and the Sox conclude a great season, while the WhizKids move on to the 2nd round vs. the Hornets in a best of 3 series, starting 9/21 at 1:30 at New Scotland (Swift Road Park). Jim Porter-Manager-WhizKids
My congratulations to the Whiz Kids and their manager Jim Porter for advancing to the semi-finals of the 46 division. They are a bunch of guys I have known for years and I appreciate their approach to the game. Over the years I have played many playoff games against them and they have never folded their tents, no matter whether favored or the underdog, until the game was over. Ed pitched a masterful game, bending here and there, but never breaking. Good luck fella's the rest of the way. I also would like to congratulate the men of the Black Sox, who after starting 3-4 ran off 9 wins in a row, completing the regular season in 2nd with a 12-4 record. See ya next year!
