Most of us who played at the West Albany Babe Ruth field would agree that the pitching mound is too high. The pitching rubber itself could use an upgrade. Could the CDMSBL take on this project as a gesture of appreciation to the West Albany Babe Ruth league?
I have spoken to a couple of CDMSBL members who understand field maintenance and they agree that this is a relatively simple procedure. The league could kick in the $$ for the pitching rubber, a few guys like me could show up with shovels and work gloves and the more knowledgable guys could supervise. Taking care of the job this fall would give the mound the winter to settle.
I know there are other issues with this field. I also know that many players like the fact that it is available, it is centrally located, it drains well and the park has a nice atmosphere. I think that upgrading the pitching mound would be an improvement that would directly benefit the members of our league as well as the kids at West Albany.
Excellent idea DB - I have a quad and a utility trailer. Don't need both legs to drive that thing around. Have a trailer that can transport the quad there as well.
Who said too high???? I think the height is great - the rubber may need to be replaced and some pitching clay laid down in the landing area - but for all us pitchers - PLEASE DON't MESS WITH THE HIGHT!!!!! It's great to have a mound more closely resembling what the proper hight should be...
