A little help here for the team stats. If a player gets a hit and then gets a courtesy runner, and that runner steals second, who gets the stolen base? Should be the runner, right? And if he scores, who gets the run scored? Should be the batter that came out for the runner, right?
I'd think the RUN goes to the hitter, he's the one who earned the way on base. However, I would give the SB to the RUNNER since it's clear that since the hitter needed a courtesy runner, he never would've stolen the base in the first place.
If the hitter gets a hit and requires a runner then what I do is count anything the runner does for him. If he steals 2nd then I give him the SB. If he ends up scoring I give him the RS. I feel if the runner wasnt out there then the hitter may not have scored.
The hitter should get it all since the coutesy runner is usually the LAST BATTED out. If the runner would have gotten on base to begin with, he wouldn't have been the courtesy runner. Needing a courtesy runner sucks... and I've needed one for years. Until the stem cell stuff is approved by the FDA, I will continue needing a courtesy runner. Getting the hit is the hardest part of "running the bases". With just a little speed and the knowledge of how to, stealing a base isn't that difficult.
This is just the perspective of the guy needing a runner.
